About this Project:
If you've not heard me say it so far, I am so excited about this project. It is the culmination of years of...not work, but more like...growing and praying and hurting and hoping. Of leaning on as well as standing strong for my community of faith. These songs have been born, some of them, out of an intense season of grief and loss for my church family. Others mark the pain and love of walking with friends through broken relationships. They are songs that have helped me, at the least, and many of us, I know, cry out to and declare a God who is unfailing, mighty to save, faithful to strengthen and send us when we are spent, drawing us always to the hope which is ours in Jesus.
I have discovered again how desperately we need each other, that standing together and with one another is not an option but very much a necessity. For when the night is its darkest, I need you to remind me - yes, we need to remind one another - that the day is dawning. And it's really beginning to feel like that now, like the day is dawning. Like I can draw breath a little deeper. Like I can dare to dream and not feel guilty or uneasy about it. Like I've glimpsed suffering and brokenness, and, forever changed by it and by the power of Christ in me, am now relating with God's world with a little more humility and, I hope, compassion.
It's my prayer that these songs would give us voice when we have none, call us to community when we would walk alone, and move us into the neighborhoods and streets of this world, shining that Light that has dawned in our lives through Jesus.
Thank you so much for your prayers and prayerful support of this project. I need you.
SOME NUTS AND BOLTS OF THIS PROJECT:
The goal of $8000 is really the "shoe-string" budget. The first $5000, for the most part, goes into what you hear: time spent in the studio recording (and in pre-planning before work in the studio even begins), travel costs to and from Nashville, TN, song licenses, musicians, mixing the songs etc. The last $3000, for the most part, will go into what you see and hold in your hands: artwork and graphic design, mastering and reproduction of at least 1000 CD's, other packaging and info in the CD jacket, fees to get it on itunes and other sites that promote digital media, t-shirts, promo-materials, and, if you're donating to this project in any way, then postage so I can get a copy of the CD into your hands when it comes out.
THIS PROJECT IS ALREADY UNDERWAY:
...and I'm so excited about it (Have I said that?)!!! We've made a good start on the tracks back in July and a little bit since, had a great time recording some background vocals and a few lead vocals back in August. And now we've got maybe one more trip out to Nashville to finish up vocals at this point before it will go to the next phase. If all continues to go well, I'm hoping we'll have something in hand by the first part of next year.
If you have any further questions or comments, don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
giles
